I Will Not Say Goodbye

I was gonna shower you with riches
I was gonna shower you with love
but now your body lies beneath me
and your spirit flies above
and now I've got my riches
and my heart's about to burst
with all this love I meant to show you
while you were on this earth…

so may my love be to you as a blanket
may my words be your sweet lullaby
for your body must sleep now forever
but your spirit is still on the rise

and though I'll never again kiss your eyelids
and I'll never again take your hand
whoever says you are gone now forever
well they simply do not understand
they do not understand

for when I need you I'll walk through the forest
and I'll open my heart to the breeze
and I'll hear your sweet voice as you whisper
through the leaves at the top of the trees
you will whisper to me…

and as long as there's breath in this body
as long as the children ask why
I will not say goodbye
I will not say goodbye…

we are all here like waves on the ocean
we are all here like lines in the sand
we are here, then we're gone in an instant
like a snowflake on the back of your hand

and though I'll never again squeeze your shoulder
and I'll never again smell your hair
whoever says you are gone now forever
well they simply do not understand
they do not understand

for when I need you I'll drive to the ocean
and I'll bare this old chest to the sun
and I'll cry out my tears in the deep salty sea
to remind me that we are still One
we will always be One…

and as long as there's breath in this body
as long as the children ask why
as long as this heart beats inside me
til the day that I die
I will not say goodbye
I will not say goodbye…
