Let The Light Back In

like her wide-eyed doll with arms and legs asunder
she learned not to cry to keep from going under

yeah somehow she managed to survive
I can see by the light there in your eyes
but what ever happened to that sweet little child?

I'll scoop her up in my arms
and take her far away from him
and I will hold her in this darkness
til it's time
to let the light back in, let the light back in
let the light back in

eyes of wonder open to the Mystery
with just one thrust, that innocence was history
but something inside refused to die
I can see by the fire in your eyes
but what ever happened to that sweet little child?

I'll scoop her up in my arms
and take her far away from him
and I will hold her in this darkness
til it's time
to let the light back in, let the light back in
let the light back in

how can you shame her
and treat her so damn cold?
how can you blame her
she was only eight years old…
she needs a hand that's safe to hold

the flowers in the garden lie in ruin
with no place to hide, the cold just cut right through them
but somehow they'll manage to survive
they'll give us their glory
all in time
but whatever happened
to that sweet, sweet little child?
